Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Leroy Thompson rushed in a career-high and franchise-record five touchdowns Saturday night to help rally the Indiana Firebirds to a 51-41 victory over the Chicago Rush and secure a playoff spot. Down 33-30 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Thompson set the tone with a one-yard run for Indiana (7-7). He then added a score from nine yards out, making it 44-33 with 7:12 left. Thompson, who ran in three TDs in April 2000 to set a Firebirds' franchise mark, capped his MVP performance with a one-yard rush with seven seconds remaining to add to his record. Raymond Philyaw completed 22-of-35 passes for 207 yards and threw for two TDs and Brett Becht caught a game-high eight balls for 96 yards for Indiana, which clinched its 11th playoff berth in franchise history. Billy Dicken finished 21-of-35 for 267 yards with five TDs and was intercepted twice for Chicago (9-5), which lost for the first time at home this season and had its four-game winning streak snapped. Despite the defeat, the Rush still hold home advantage in the playoffs as the No. 3 seed. Lindsay Fleshman hauled in six passes for a team-high 65 yards and Anthony Ladd ran in a score for Chicago.
